INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana House is expected to vote soon on a bill to expand access to Narcan, a drug that can reverse the effects of a heroin overdose.
Under the proposed law, family members, friends and others who know someone struggling with a drug addiction would have access to Narcan and the ability to administer it.
Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services officials said heroin and prescription drug overdoses are increasing and Marion County is on track to have a record number this year.
The Indiana Senate approved the bill unanimously -- and with little opposition -- earlier in the session. The House is expected to vote on the bill Monday.
